Independent India

My father had been serving The Army when India got the freedom. He had been asked to escort his family safely to India (Distt.Gurdaspur,Punjab).All the relatives from my mother's side and all the relatives from my father's side safely reached Pangoli,a village near Pathankot, and settled there,as it had been vacated by the people, mostly Muslims, who had migrated to Pakistan.Though I was born after the partition,I came to know about the tragedies that the Hindus had faced during and after the partition of India.Today,on the occasion of our sixty seventh independence day,my mind is trying to reflect upon the horrific tales of terror, narrated by my uncles and aunts, mother and father, grandmothers and grandfathers and wish to surmise that to be a non religious person is the only way towards peace and harmony!

Lineage,My father's Lineage

My father ,and my father's forefathers,or should I say ,my ancestors, are the direct descendants of a brave race of Rajputs.Maharana Pratap,Ihe unconquered, king of Mewar (Rajasthan,India) has been our forefather!I feel so proud! My father devoted his life after retirement from the army to popularise Maharana Pratap.Previously The Biggest Dam in Asia (Thein Dam) on the river Ravi,That flows alongside our village Pangoli, has been renamed as Maharana Ptatap Sagar Dam,owing to his perpetual efforts. He is also the founding member of a senior secondary school at Pathankot and a degree college at Sujanpur. He lives today as Col Saheb among The People of our region!

Why Is It So

Why is it
We seldom sit
In the shade of a tree
A majestic,generous
Static tree?
The tree,that shelters
The tree, that provides
Flowers and fruits
Food and fodder
Happiness and joy!
Yes,joy!
Treeing is also
A feeling!
Touch a tree
Hug a tree
And feel
The latent ecstasy
Of existence
Our existence!
I wonder!

My Father

My father,Late Col Randhir Singh,is here there and everywhere! We are mortals or are we?Daddy is not physically here .Does it matter? His philosophy, his works, his ideals, his calm and his mysterious laughter, his perpetuity and persona have enamored my mind forever! He was an educationist and many schools and colleges at Pathankot and Sujanpur were founded by him, which have been running successfully after his demise.I'm very proud to be a Rajput and that too from the lineage of Maharana Pratap!I wonder how and why did I marry out of caste?

My father and his mysterious laughter

My father,Col Randhir Singh, had an adorable laughter! He laughed away all his sorrows!Yes,after having a glorious and illustrious career in the Army, fighting at the front as a soldier of the British Troops in Burma,he got a bullet in his knee, and he was in pain all his life!He spent his life as a retiree in serving others, helping all the villagers.Daddy,I love you!I'm proud of being your daughter!
